Changes in Labour Law in Lithuania

Last week, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania approved a draft amendment to the Labour Code of the Republic of Lithuania regarding implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive and the principle of equal pay for men and women, and presented it to the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania for consideration.

The changes are expected to take effect on 30 April 2026 (except for Article 140, which will take effect on 1 May 2026).

The Government has extended the previous preliminary deadline for the adoption of secondary legal acts and currently indicates that such legal acts will be adopted by 7 June 2026. Therefore, it is likely that more details on implementation procedures will only become known after the new regulation is already effective.

According to the draft, it remains unclear when the new procedure for submission of additional information to monthly salary will start to apply. Consequently, it is likely that the draft will still be adjusted.

Below, we present the most significant changes proposed in the draft.
